Freescale QorIQ Processor Enables Optimal Energy Efficiency for Synology's Award-Winning DiskStation NAS Server

QorIQ P1022 processor features power-efficient energy savings modes and supports high encrypted file read/write performance

AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Freescale Semiconductor's (NYS: FSL) QorIQ P1022 processor is powering Synology's DiskStation DS413 network-attached storage (NAS) server, which won the prestigious "Best Choice Award" at Computex 2012. The QorIQ P1022 processor is designed to provide dual-core performance and innovative, packet-lossless energy management capabilities for networking applications such as the Synology DS413.

The Synology DS413 is a quad-bay NAS server that provides small enterprises and small office/home office (SOHO) users with a secure, centralized, high-density file storage solution. Leveraging breakthrough packet-lossless power saving capabilities featured in the P1022 processor, the DS413 delivers leading encrypted file transfer performance of 48.81 MB per second read/23.46 MB per second write speeds while supporting a minimal 3.3 watt hibernation mode.

"The DS413 is an outstanding example of Synology's leadership and dedication to developing high-performance, energy-efficient storage solutions," said Bernd Lienhard, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Networking Processor Division. "Freescale is pleased the QorIQ P1022 has contributed to the exceptional performance and low-power advantages of Synology's award-winning NAS server."

Ideal for NAS applications with cyclical workloads, the QorIQ P1022 features a sophisticated power management system with network-aware, packet-lossless deep sleep and standby modes, enabling the creation of storage products that achieve extremely low standby power while maintaining fast, responsive networking for on-demand processing.

"Our DS413 product redefines the state-of-the-art for NAS servers by combining outstanding performance and power efficiency," said Vic Hsu, chief executive officer of Synology. "The advanced power efficiency and remarkable performance of Freescale's QorIQ technology enables significant differentiation for our new, award-winning solution."

The QorIQ P1022 combines two e500 v2 processor cores built on Power Architecture® technology with enhanced system peripherals and interconnect technology to balance processor performance and I/O system throughput. Delivering multicore performance ranging from 600 to 1200 MHz in a single-core power budget, the P1022 features an integrated high-resolution display controller, three PCI Express interconnects, advanced hardware for full protocol security, RAID acceleration and integrated SATA interfaces.
