Senior Research Scientist to Share Benefits of Visco-Elastic Support (VES) Technology

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- ITT Corporation (NYS: ITT) is an industry leader in providing highly engineered products and services to customers in growing end markets such as energy infrastructure. This week, the company is showcasing its capabilities for the hydropower industry at HydroVision Brazil 2012, including an extensive product line of energy absorption products that protect critical infrastructure from shock and vibration.

During the conference, Senior Research Scientist Shubin Ruan will share the benefits of the company's Visco-Elastic Support (VES) technology, which targets the hydro-electric generation market and more specifically helps provide stability to a vertical shaft hydro-electric generator.

"Clean, renewable, reliable and efficient hydropower has gained more market acceptance since the turn of the 21st century and the hydropower industry is more prosperous than ever. At the same time, modern technology makes it possible for higher capacity hydro-generator units to be installed, which increases hydraulic vibratory, magnetic and imbalanced inertial forces," said Ruan, who will present Wednesday afternoon.

"ITT's Enidine brand VES technology helps power plant operators and owners reduce vibrations while also limiting thermal forces in the bearing support structures. This helps provide smooth operations in normal conditions and provides protection from extreme conditions, which maximizes returns for power plant operators and owners."

Through leading brands such as Enidine, ITT offers seismic and wind protection for power plants, buildings, bridges and pipelines; provides increased component life on vertical shaft hydro-electric generators; reduces thermal forces to bearing and civil structures; and provides protection from damaging vibration forces caused by overspeed conditions, magnetic pull and turbulent flows.

At the conference, ITT will be joining other industry participants focused on the future of the Latin American hydropower market. HydroVision Brazil is designed specifically for individuals working within the utility and private power sectors, as well as engineering and commercial personnel from the equipment manufacturing and consulting fields. The event features content directly relevant to the day-to-day operations of the hydroelectric industry, focusing on solutions and practical approaches to timely issues and challenges.
