GrowLife Inc. Votes "Yes" on California Prop 37

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- GrowLife Inc. (formerly known as Phototron Holdings Inc.) (OTC: PHOT), an innovative leader in high end horticulture supply, today announced that it has voted "yes" on California Proposition 37, The California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act, which is designed to label foods that are genetically engineered or contain genetically modified organisms, or GMOs.

"As a leader in high end horticulture, GrowLife is heavily invested in the agricultural industry and has long supported sustainable farming, local agriculture and at-home growing," said GrowLife Inc. CEO Sterling C. Scott. "The United States is far behind other countries when it comes to fair disclosure to consumers and we see Prop 37 as just the beginning of a long battle."

Some 50 countries around the world, representing more than 40% of the world's population, already require GMO labeling, including all of Europe, Japan, India and China. Several polls have also shown that more than 90% of Americans would like to know that their food is genetically engineered, including a survey conducted by The Mellman Group.

Moreover, there is growing evidence that GMOs can lead to allergies, organ toxicity and a number of other health problems. Environmental problems are also well documented, including loss of biodiversity, an overall increase in pesticide use, and the emergence of resistant weeds that threaten millions of acres of farmland, according to CARightToKnow.org.

The movement has attracted widespread celebrity endorsements from the likes of Michael Pollan and Danny Devito; and is continuing to gain national attention from cable hosted talk shows such as 'Real Time with Bill Maher'. Maher, who is an ardent supporter of Proposition 37, recently interviewed Gary Hirshberg from Just Label It; the two discussed the dangers of GMO's and just how necessary of an issue labeling GMO's has come to be. And while having cable talk show hosts show their support is great for exposure, what for many is the most telling endorsement comes from the over 125 celebrity chefs co-signing an open letter in support.

GrowLife Inc. offers a variety of horticulture products designed to empower those looking to grow fruits and vegetables in their own home. The company's Phototron subsidiary is a 25-year old U.S. manufacturer of plant growing systems complete with nutrients, media, timers and controls designed to perfect every aspect of at-home gardening. Meanwhile, its Geners.com is an online supplier of a full range of hydroponic equipment for shipment worldwide.

Alice Waters, founder of Chez Panisse in Berkeley, elegantly stated what supporters of the movement stand for when she wrote "the future of food is at stake, this is the moment when we need to stand together as chefs, restaurateurs, and people who care about food to support Proposition 37."
