HDMI Specification Marks 10-Year Milestone as De-Facto Standard for HD Connectivity

10thAnniversary Showcases Breadth of HDMI Products in Expanding Markets and Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- HDMI Licensing, LLC, the agent responsible for licensing the High-Definition Multimedia Interface(HDMI®) Specification on behalf of the HDMI Founders, today marked the 10-year milestone of the release of the first HDMI Specification. Since its introduction in 2003, the HDMI Specification has been licensed by more than 1,300 HDMI Adopters who have gone on to manufacture over 3 billion HDMI-enabled products.

What began as a way to simplify the mass of cables for connecting home theatre equipment has expanded to include a broad array of devices in markets and applications beyond the home—including automobiles, traditional B2B environments and mobile devices, all with the crystal clear digital-quality and single-cable simplicity consumers have come to expect. The HDMI Specification's entire ecosystem — 3 billion devices based on ever-improving technology, backward compatibility, product interoperability and worldwide testing, compliance and enforcement resources — makes it a preferred and profitable option for an ever increasing set of manufacturers.

"With over 1,300 Adopters and 3 billion devices shipped, the penetration of the HDMI interface in consumer electronics, PC, and mobile devices is nothing short of a phenomenon," stated Steve Venuti, president of HDMI Licensing, LLC. "We look for continued success as more and more products are connected to transmit and receive high definition content."
