Builder plans 120 new solar-powered Built to Order™ homes for recent land purchase in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- KB Home (NYS: KBH) , one of the nation's largest and most recognized homebuilders, has begun construction on model homes at one of its most recent land acquisitions, a community called Rancho Santalina located in the desirable San Diego County suburb of San Marcos. Already collecting names for a list of interested buyers from a sales office onsite, KB Home expects to formally open the community to home shoppers by mid-February. The new homes will all include solar power systems and can be constructed to suit each buyer's tastes and needs through KB Home's unique Built to Order process. Home shoppers will have their choice of designs from two collections of floor plans—the Vistas and the Haciendas—and eight customizable floor plans overall.

"San Marcos is a wonderful place to live, with stellar schools and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities, and is just a short drive to the beach. Our newest community, Rancho Santalina, is perched atop the foothills, offering sweeping vista views of the valley below while also offering easy access to the 78 and 5 freeways for a convenient commute to downtown San Diego and all it has to offer," said Steve Ruffner, president of KB Home's Southern California division. "So, we're very excited to be once again expanding our presence in San Diego County and offering not one, but two, collections of new home designs at Rancho Santalina."

The two-story homes in the Vistas collection range in size from 2,608 to 3,598 square feet and can include up to six bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths. Homes in the Vistas collection can be customized to include a bedroom on the first floor, second-story decks off the master bedroom suites and enhanced outdoor living areas with extra-large covered patios.

The Hacienda collection floor plans range in size from 2,224 to 2,778 and can also include up to six bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths. Both collections' designs include large kitchens with built-in islands adjacent to spacious great rooms that open up to attractive covered patios, perfect for entertaining and enjoying the beautiful Southern California weather.

With KB Home's Built to Order approach, after homebuyers have selected their homesite and customized their floor plan, they also get to make many aesthetic choices both inside and out of their home. Exterior options include a variety of architectural styles as well as landscaping packages. Interior décor like flooring, cabinetry, lighting and window coverings are also all up to each homebuyer and his or her personal preferences and needs.

All new KB homes in San Diego County, including those that will be built at Rancho Santalina, are ENERGY STAR® qualified, and come with the builder's signature Energy Performance Guide® (EPG®). Similar to the miles per gallon rating or MPG sticker on cars, KB Home's EPG provides buyers with an estimate of monthly energy costs for the home as designed, as well as an estimate of monthly energy cost savings when compared to a typical resale home. The new homes at Rancho Santalina could help homeowners save up to 40% each month on energy utility costs thanks to the inclusion of solar power systems with each home.
