Piedmont Natural Gas Adds CNG Fueling Station In Spartanburg

Opening Reflects Growing Demand by Corporate Fleets Switching to Natural Gas

SPARTANBURG, S.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Piedmont Natural Gas (NYS: PNY) today marked the opening of its ninth Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fueling station in Piedmont's three-state service territory, a sign of growing demand as more companies convert their fleets of cars and trucks to natural gas.

U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, who represents South Carolina's 4th Congressional District, corporate fleet owners and others joined Piedmont Natural Gas executives for a grand opening celebration at the new station, located at the company's Spartanburg Resource Center, 501 West Blackstock Rd.

"Promoting the use of natural gas in vehicles is part of Piedmont's commitment to sustainable business practices and reducing our impact on the environment," said Karl Newlin, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Piedmont Natural Gas. "With clean-burning, affordable natural gas produced right here in the U.S., corporate fleet owners can cut their costs, reduce their carbon footprint and increase our nation's energy security all at once."

Corporate fleet owners have reported savings of up to 28 percent by switching to natural gas from diesel, and natural gas vehicles emit an average 25 percent less carbon dioxide than traditional gasoline or diesel, according to trade group America's Natural Gas Alliance.

In addition to remarks from Rep. Gowdy and Piedmont Natural Gas officials, today's event featured remarks from Jim Evers, regional director for AT&T, who spoke about how AT&T is incorporating NGVs into its fleet of service vehicles.

The Spartanburg fueling station is open to commercial fleet vehicles and the general public.
