Lowe's to Donate $1 Million to Help Communities Impacted by Tornadoes

MOORESVILLE, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Lowe's announced today it will donate $1 million to support disaster relief and rebuilding efforts in communities affected by the recent tornadoes in Oklahoma, Texas and across the Midwest. Lowe's is working with its national nonprofit partners to provide both immediate and long-term support to local communities.

As part of the $1 million pledge, Lowe's will donate $500,000 to the American Red Cross and will match the earnings of five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson from Sunday's NASCAR race at Charlotte Motor Speedway with an additional donation to the Red Cross. Lowe's will use the remainder of its $1 million commitment to fund local projects in areas of greatest need as identified by its national nonprofit partners.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to all the families who've lost loved ones and experienced the devastation of the recent tornadoes, including members of our Lowe's family," said Robert Niblock, Lowe's chairman, president and CEO. "We'll be there every step of the way to help these communities and families recover, from the search and rescue efforts until these neighborhoods are rebuilt."

Lowe's stores throughout the United States and Lowes.com also will accept donations to the Red Cross. The donations will help provide food, shelter, relief supplies, emotional support and other assistance to those impacted by the tornadoes. Lowe's is assisting employees and family members through the Lowe's Employee Relief Fund.

As a member of the Red Cross' Annual Disaster Giving Program, Lowe's pledges donations on an ongoing basis in advance of disasters to help ensure the Red Cross can take immediate action. Lowe's partners with Johnson and Team 48 to provide additional support through the Lowe's Racing for Relief program. Since teaming with the Red Cross in 1999, Lowe's and its customers have contributed more than $24 million for disaster relief.

Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers have been assisting tornado victims this week by delivering critically needed relief supplies and support to local communities in Granbury, Texas. Lowe's national disaster relief partner, the First Response Team of America, also has been on the ground providing search and rescue assistance at Plaza Towers Elementary School in Moore, Okla.
