Discover Recognized as Corporate Citizen of the Year by Executives' Club of Chicago

RIVERWOODS, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Discover Financial Services (NYS: DFS) was awarded The Executives' Club of Chicago's 2013 Corporate Citizen of the Year award for its financial education program, Pathway to Financial Success. In its inaugural year, this award was created to recognize an individual or company for outstanding contributions to the Chicagoland community in areas such as the environment, education, veterans' initiatives, workforce development, or governance.

"At Discover, we are committed to helping high school students get the financial education they need to make sound financial decisions. We are honored to be recognized and pleased to make a difference in our communities," said David Nelms, chairman and chief executive officer of Discover.

Since Pathway to Financial Success launched in February 2012, Discover has raised awareness for financial education through a PSA, awkwardconversations.org, and media. Since Pathway to Financial Success launched in February 2012, more than 250 grants have been awarded to schools in 40 states totaling nearly $3.3 million, in addition to a $1 million grant to Chicago Public Schools (CPS).

For more than 100 years, The Executives' Club has identified and shared best practices with Chicago's business community. In addition to the Corporate Citizen of the Year award, The Executives' Club of Chicago's Convene Chicago Annual Awards Program also recognized the Chicago Innovator of the Year and CIO of the Year.
