Loire Valley Sauvignon wines showed exceptionally well during the competition and were awarded accordingly. They received two of the four special trophy awards as well as 35 gold and 68 silver medals. These wines will be available for tasting as part of a Masterclass during VinExpo in Bordeaux. Lead by Jamie Goode, who also served on the judging panel during the competition, the class will showcase a selection of the award winning wines on Tuesday June 18th from 12:30-1:15pm in Tasting Lab 3. All of the award winning Loire wines will be available for tasting in the free-pour area. An additional class will be held in London later in the year. There are 11 AOP producing 100% Sauvignon Blanc wines in the Loire Valley. All showed well at the competition with Pouilly Fumé, Quincy, Sancerre, Touraine and Cheverny receiving medals. Touraine in particular really impressed the judges, earning 42% of all gold and silver medals received by Loire wines.

Jamie Goode commented: "I was really impressed by the performance of the Loire wines in the competition. The Loire sets the benchmark for Sauvignon - particularly so now that quality has improved across the board in recent years. And it's not just the more famous regions that are excelling - Touraine Sauvignon is really impressive at the moment. "
