University of São Paulo Chosen as Winner of 2013 Citrix Innovation Award

University Creates Largest IT Cloud Project in Latin America

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today at Citrix Synergy™, University of São Paulo was announced as the winner of the company's eighth annual Citrix Innovation Award, designed to honor organizations adopting cloud solutions to enable mobile workstyles. Using Citrix technology, the University of São Paulo has created one of the largest IT cloud environments in Latin America.

Named the "Nuvem USP" (Cloud USP), the solution provides on-demand, centrally managed virtual datacenters, with flexibility and security, back-up, data replication and high-availability. Built with Citrix CloudPlatform™ and Citrix CloudPortal™ Business Manager, it delivers Citrix XenDesktop®-powered desktops, streaming applications via Citrix XenApp®, secure file storage, sharing via Citrix Sharefile® and cloud networking via Citrix NetScaler®. With this solution in place, cloud users, mainly teachers and the researchers, are able to start their work in minutes by selecting the hardware and software needed directly in the portal, managing its budget in real time, in a secure, flexible, high manageable and scalable environment. Cloud USP will help researchers streamline the bureaucratic procurement phase and reduce the vast time required to provision any type of infrastructure.

"The drive toward enterprise mobility is transforming how people work," said Anthony Ricco, vice president of demand marketing, Citrix. "University of São Paulo - and our other finalists - highlight how cloud services afford greater levels of productivity for people, efficiency for IT, and agility for business."

The Citrix Innovation Award seeks to inspire Citrix customers and prospects to use enterprise mobility solutions as a key component of their enterprise strategy to accelerate growth, improve market share and increase end-customer value.

The two other finalists honored this year were:

  • Essar Group: A multinational corporation working in steel, energy, communications, minerals and shipping that uses Citrix solutions to increase productivity and improve cost efficiencies across its divisions.

  • Miami Children's Hospital: A world-renowned center for pediatric medicine that has built a telehealth infrastructure using Citrix solutions that gives clinicians access to medical data quickly and securely, from anywhere.
