Fashion model Andreja Pejic, formerly Andrej Pejic, officially comes out as a transgender female
Starting as a male model years ago, supermodel Andreja Pejic, 22, broke new ground when she began modeling both men's and women's fashions, eventually becoming the most successful androgynous runway model in history, according to ET.
Now, she's revealed that her transgender transformation is complete, and went public with her decision Wednesday that she will only be modeling women's fashion going forward, according to Daily Mail.
Of her name change, Pejic says in an in-depth interview with Style.com, '...Andrej is a Christian Orthodox name, and in that religion, it's definitely a male name. So I kept the 'j' and added an 'a,' which actually becomes a name that I don't think exists. But I wanted to keep the 'j' because that's me. That's my name.'
The supermodel told People, 'I want to share my story with the world because I think I have a social responsibility. I hope that by being open about this, it becomes less of an issue.'
