Legendary singer Neil Young and his wife are divorcing after decades together.

Young and wife Peggy filed for divorce on July 29, ending their 36-year marriage, according to Rolling Stone.

The pair married in 1978. They have two children, a son and a daughter, and even performed together – Pegi was a backup singer while he toured the world in the 1990's. She even joined him onstage at the 1994 Academy Awards.

Pegi was the inspiration for many of the superstar's classic hits including "Such a Woman," "Once an Angel" and "Unknown Legend."

They also started the Bridge School in 1986 after growing frustrated at the lack of schooling options for son Neil, who suffers from cerebral palsy.

The school is funded by an all-star concert held every year in Mountain View, California, according to the magazine. The 2013 benefit was the last time Neil and Pegi performed together.

Both were scheduled to play Farm Aid in September, but Pegi's name is no longer on the lineup.

Their next court hearing is set for December 12.
