Giants TE Donnell benches himself in fantasy football

There's nothing worse than watching an NFL player post gaudy stats while on your fantasy football team's bench. Just ask New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell, who experienced that gut-wrenching pain this past Sunday.

Why? Well, he benched himself.

After hauling in a career-best seven catches, while amassing 54 yards and three touchdowns in a 45-14 rout over Washington, he admitted his comical gaffe. Donnell, an undrafted free agent out of Grambling State who debuted with the Giants last season, admitted that he benched himself in favor of 49ers tight end Vernon Davis.

According to the Bergen Record (N.J.), Donnell's fantasy team on which he starts Drew Brees, Frank Gore, Anquan Boldin and Mike Wallace, among others, lost by 15 points.

"Would've won if I played me," Donnell told The Record beat writer Art Stapleton after practice Wednesday. "During the game, I'm like, 'Really?' That's the honest truth."

Asked if he'd be in his own lineup for Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons, Donnell laughed: "Oh yeah. I'm in there."
