It was a shocking scene in Brooklyn Tuesday when a man ran out of a building

A witness told WABC, "We thought it was a prank. And then he was like, 'Help me! Help me! Help me!'"

The man, who is believed to be in his 20s, reportedly caught fire after some kind of explosion.

The Daily News reports he planned to open a hookah shop and was working with chemicals when something ignited.

Investigators believe flammable material he was spraying on hookah pipes ignited the fire.

CBS repots the first floor of the building was severely damaged.

Fortunately two bystanders ran toward him with fire extinguishers and put out the blaze. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition with severe burns to more than 90 percent of his body.

Later doctors stabilized him and transferred him to a burn unit for further treatment.
