The Truth About Bulimia Nervosa

Bulimia nervosa is defined by recurring episodes of a loss of control of appetite followed by some sort of action to compensate. Quite simply, binges and purges.

Bulimia doesn't mean that you are a glutton or addict to food. A bulimic tries to control themselves for extending periods and then loses total control later, even just for a brief period. The purging takes on many forms whether thats vomiting, excessive exercise, use of laxatives, and even fasting.

It is harder to detect because the effects aren't immediately evident. However, Dr. Howard Steiger of the Douglas University Institute urges that being comfortable with body image, weight, and food starts at home and with reevaluating some societal views.
