A Fox anchor in Cleveland apparently learned a new word on Monday while recapping the Oscars. Unfortunately, the word was racist ... and she learned it live on-air.

WJW's Kristi Capel was discussing Lady Gaga's tribute to the "Sound of Music" with her co-host Wayne Dawson when she made the awkward gaffe.

DAWSON: "Lady Gaga, surprising a lot of people last night with this tribute to Sound of Music."

CAPEL: "It's hard to really hear her voice with all the jigaboo music - whatever you want to call it - jigaboo!"

Yikes. Caoel probably didn't realize that the word "jigaboo" is a derogatory term for black people. A culture blogger explains it was coined in the 1800s to describe dancing black slaves.

Of course, Internet users took to Twitter to express their disappointment.

One user tweeted, "@Kristi_Capel is a moron, she might as well have dropped an N bomb on live TV."

Another, more furious tweet, reads, "HOW DARE YOU! Don't lie, you can not be this boldly ignorant!!! Just admit your racist and your republican dad taught you @Kristi_Capel."

Capel sent out a series of apologetic tweets to users, explaining, "I didn't know the meaning behind it or that it was even a word."

She isn't the only one to have a surprising offensive moment on live TV. See if you can catch this one ... also from a Fox affiliate.
