The Kentucky Derby may be about the horses, but for many derby-goers, it's really all about the hats!

AOL and our #AOLHatCam hit the 141st running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday at beautiful Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky, and the record-breaking crowd of over 170,000 fans were ready to showcase their iconic headpieces on our cameras.

From the infield to the red carpet, #AOLHatCam saw everything from high-flying fascinators, to over-the-top accessories with mint juleps and roses attached, to toppers with plumes of feathers streaming behind. From the traditional to the wacky, the classic to the creative, AOL was there to capture all the fun.

On the red carpet, fashion-forward celebrities like Vanessa Minnillo and "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland went for striking hats with Minnillo choosing a classic, wide-brim black and white hat and Hyland opting for a feather-centric fascinator. While Star Jones certainly had one of the biggest hats on the red carpet, we had to tip our hats to Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir, who donned a rose-filled mohawk hat with a mint-julep attached. It was by far one of the most original and imaginative headpieces.

Hat's off till next year.
