Bubba Watson is going to paint over Confederate flag on his General Lee

Updated

Bubba Watson won't be keeping the Confederate flag on his "Dukes of Hazzard" ride.

Watson, the world's third-ranked golfer, announced on Twitter on Thursday that he is planning to have the U.S. flag painted over the Confederate battle flag on the roof of the General Lee, the car used on the hit TV show "The Dukes of Hazzard."

The 36-year-old golfer is a major "Dukes of Hazzard" fan and he purchased the famous 1969 Dodge Charger for $110,000 at the Collectible Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., in 2012. Since snagging the car, he's already made some other adjustments, including having actor John Schneider, aka Bo Duke, one of the two Duke boys in the popular 1980s show sign it in 2015.

Watson's move is just the latest in those distancing themselves from the battle flag following the shooting at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, S.C., which claimed the lives of nine people. Earlier this week, TV Land yanked "Dukes of Hazzard" re-runs from their lineup because of the show's depiction of the Confederate flag.
