Obama: "Have a Safe and Happy Fourth of July"

Early Saturday morning, President Barack Obama wished everyone a very Happy Fourth of July (including a birthday shoutout to his daughter, Malia).

In his weekly address, Obama praised the nation's troops claiming, "We honor those heroes today. We honor everyone who continually strives to make this country a better, stronger, more inclusive, and more hopeful place."

He then went on to talk about the day's special meaning, stating that "239 years ago, our founding patriots declared our independence, proclaiming that all of us are created equal, endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights including the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."

In true Independence day fashion, Obama has invited hundreds of military members and their families to the White House celebration.

And if you were wondering what the First Family is planning for their big celebration, they're keeping the festivities classic: hotdogs, burgers and fireworks. Sounds pretty ideal to us.
