Sports have long been relied upon as a way to distract us from life's "realer" issues. This has been the case in nationwide crises as well as tragedies on a much more personal scale. Tuesday, we saw the latter.

Ahead of Tuesday night's Mets game against the San Diego Padres, Reddit user animalchief shared a heartwarming message sent from manager Terry Collins.

"I know Pete was a big Mets fan and he will be missed," the note read in part. The post has seen over 4,100 upvotes in 15 hours of existence, and the Imgur photo has more than 780,000 views.

Definitely a classy act by Collins, who has managed the Mets since 2011 and become familiar with the city and its fanbase. Just another example of something as trivial as baseball meaning so much more than just a game.
