Day Care Accused of Drugging Babies

An Oklahoma daycare has been shut down after it was discovered that the staff drugged children with Benadryl. The daycare has been in existence for more than 20 years. One mother, Leslee Meade, says that her 8-month-old son was a victim of the daycare drugging. She said:

"Until the last month, month and a half, I noticed that he was coming home extremely tired."

Meade went on the explain that her son would fall asleep while eating. She would have to wake him up between bites in order for him to finish his meals. She said:

"Then, after he'd eat, he'd go to sleep, say 6 o'clock, and wouldn't wake up until 6 the next morning."

Meade was so alarmed by her son's behavior that she considered bringing him to the emergency room. Then, she received a call from a state agency. The agency said that they were investigating the daycare after suspicions arose that the staff members were giving Benadryl to the babies to put them to sleep.

Investigators found an unmarked bottle of Benadryl in the daycare's nursery. The daycare operator could face felony child abuse charges.

While thankfully none of the children were seriously injured, the matter is being taken very seriously as Benadryl can cause small children to stop breathing.
