Why people are calling Miley Cyrus out for apparent 'racism' during VMAs
With the MTV VMAs still fresh in people's minds, social media has a lot to say about basically everything.
From Justin Bieber's tears, to Rebel Wilson's police outfit, to Kayne 2020...the event was live tweeted by millions. There were many emotions, opinions and exclamations throughout the show, including some tweets calling out racial insensitivity.
As reported by Mic.com, "perhaps the most offensive moment came when host Miley Cyrus used the term 'real mammy' on stage."
The article goes on to explain that at a prerecorded clip of Cyrus and Snoop Dog filmed, was played during the VMAs. During this clip, the pair are seen eating brownies that Snoop claims were baked by Cyrus's grandmother (whom she apparently calls "mammy").
Immediately proceeding this "skit," a slew of tweets began coming in. From famous faces like Chance the Rapper and black feminist Roxanne Gay, to the general Twitterverse, people were not happy by Cyrus's reported use of the word "mammy."
I think shorty said "my real mammy" <
