Woman sells newborn daughter for £4,700

A new mother has been arrested after allegedly selling her newborn baby to another couple for £4,700. The woman told police that she needed the cash to pay for medical costs after a caesarean birth.

Anais Coromoto Rodriguez Hernandez, 25, was paid by a couple who wanted to adopt her newborn daughter. After Hernandez's parents found out about the transaction, they reported their daughter to the police.

Hernandez allegedly planned the sale of her baby while she was pregnant. Two days after giving birth at the Hospital Central de San Felipe in Yaracuy, Venezuela, she gave the baby girl to the couple who paid for her. A police spokesperson said:

"The young woman negotiated a price of 46,000 Venezuelan bolivar which she claims was to pay for her Caesarean. According to her statement, she didn't have the means to take care of the child and preferred to give her to a childless couple and at the same time get her medical costs covered."

Police confirmed that the money was paid into Hernandez's bank account. Officers apprehended the couple, Miguel Angel Balboa Vallejo, 44, from Spain, and his 42-year-old wife Auris del Valle Guillen Sencial, after confirming the payment.

The baby is being taken into care while the investigation continues.
