St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is AOL.com's 2015 #GivingTuesday nonprofit

Updated

November has two days devoted shopping -- Black Friday and Cyber Monday -- and a day for giving thanks, but until recently, there was no day for giving back.

That is where the 92nd Street Y stepped in to create #GivingTuesday. On Tuesday, December 1, 2015, people around the world will come together for one common purpose -- to celebrate generosity and support noble causes.

Leading up to #GivingTuesday, AOL.com asked readers to vote on organizations they wanted featured on the homepage. An overwhelming number selected St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as their #GivingTuesday nonprofit of choice.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. They freely share their discoveries, and every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children.

Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since opening in 1962. Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
