Congregation of circus clowns hold annual church service in London

Updated

A congregation of clowns gathered together on Sunday to mark the 70th annual Clown Church Service at All Saints Church in Haggerston in London, England.

Decked out in lavish costumes and painted faces, performers attended the service in memory of Joseph Grimaldi (1778-1837), the most celebrated English clown and the father of modern clowning, who was born in London.

The service has been an annual tradition since 1946.
