Oprah Winfrey delivered a rousing, emotional speech at Sunday night's 2018 Golden Globes while accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award, during which she received multiple standing ovations from the star-studded crowd.

Introduced by Reese Witherspoon, with whom she stars in the upcoming film "A Wrinkle In Time," Winfrey used her time on stage to pay tribute to the many women who have spoken up about being victims of sexual assault and harassment as part of the #MeToo movement that has overtaken Hollywood.

"What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool we all have," she said. "I'm especially proud and inspired by all the women who have felt strong enough and empowered enough to speak up and share their personal stories."

Winfrey made sure to note that abuse of power and sexual misconduct are "not just a story affecting the entertainment industry," and called out many other places of work in which they remain issues.

She also told the story of Recy Taylor -- "a name I know and I think you should, too" -- a black woman who, in Alabama in 1944, was kidnapped and subsequently gang-raped by six armed white men. Taylor died 10 days ago.

"I want all the girls watching here and now to know that a new day is on the horizon," she said. 'When that new day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificent women, many of whom are right here in this room tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men, fighting hard to make sure that they become the leaders who take us the time when nobody ever has to say 'Me Too' again."

She remembered watching Sidney Poitier win the Oscar for Best Actor for his performance in "Lillies of the Field" back in 1964, noting that she had never seen a black man celebrated so highly on such a major platform.

"He was the most elegant man I had ever seen," she said.

"It is not lost on me that at this moment there are some little girls watching as I become the first black woman to be given the same award," she added to rousing applause.

Winfrey also added that she "[values] the press now more than ever."

"We all know that the press is under siege these days but we also know that it is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption to injustice to tyrants to injustice to secrets and lies," she declared.
