'Real Housewives of New York' cast was stranded at sea on cruise ship from hell

During a recent trip to Colombia, the cast of "The Real Housewives of New York" embarked on a cruise trip that went terribly wrong while filming for the show's upcoming tenth season.

According to Page Six, the Bravo stars were scared for their lives as their "pleasure cruise" quickly turned into a turbulent ride on a boat that caught fire as it sank -- "and there were only two or three life jackets for everyone on board." Judging by the cast's Instagram activity, the trip appears to have happened earlier this month.

A subsequent People report says that "the boat was old, beaten up and falling apart, [and] there were no amenities, no food, and a crew that didn’t know what they were doing."

Perhaps a sign of things to come, when "they were [initially] ushered on board, the boat couldn't even move" because "the anchor got stuck," so the crew was forced to "saw the anchor off before they could sail anywhere."

Despite the cast "complaining right off the bat," production "pushed them to continue because they knew it would make good TV."

And, once they hit the high seas, it was far from smooth sailing after the the boat's engine caught on fire -- without a fire extinguisher on board.

"It was a huge blaze and the crew was fighting to put it out," the source told Page Six.

Additionally, "the seats and other things on board weren't nailed down [and] started flying about," prompting mass panic on the cruise.

"It was a disaster," an insider told People. "The vessel was so shaky and the waters so rocky that the women got really sick. Things began flying off the boat. The engine caught on fire. None of the crew spoke English. None of the women felt safe. Carole and Tinsley got sick and were throwing up overboard. The others were all screaming for help. They were all scared out of the minds. They thought they were going to die out there."

"Bethenny [Frankel], Ramona [Singer] and Dorinda [Medley] were soaked and screaming hysterically, Carole [Radziwill] and Tinsley [Mortimer] were literally throwing up from seasickness," the Page Six source added. "They were far out to sea, and they thought they were going down like the Titanic."

Sources tell Page Six that the ladies eventually made it to safety and report that Bravo offered them all counseling to deal with the tumult of their experience.

"'The Real Housewives of New York City' cast was recently on a boat in South America and encountered turbulent water," the network said in a statement. "Thankfully, everyone is fine and was able to continue their vacation as planned. The safety of our cast and crew is paramount and, to that end, we are doing a full investigation."

As for the veteran Bravo stars, they are less than pleased that they were put in danger for the sake of the show.

"If anything the experience brought them together," an insider told People. "Any feuds that have been carrying through the season were thrown aside. They’re furious with production for putting them in that situation to begin with."

Fellow cast members Sonja Morgan and Luann de Lesseps were also on the trip to Colombia, but it's unclear whether or not they were on the cruise.

In a photo that surfaced from the Colombian vacation on Twitter, de Lesseps is seen at a dinner table with the rest of the cast in what looks to be a wig.

People reports that, beyond the shocking cruise incident, the trip to Colombia also featured one cast member having to wear a diaper after getting sick with a parasite. Ramona reportedly left Colombia in a wheelchair because she was so distraught from the overall trip.

The tenth season of "RHONY" is set to feature a ton of major storylines. Perhaps most notably, it's expected to heavily feature Luann's arrest at the end of last year and touch upon the death of former cast member Jill Zarin's husband, Bobby.

An original "Real Housewives of New York" cast member, de Lesseps was arrested on Christmas Eve in Palm Beach for drunk and disorderly conduct after reportedly attacking a police officer at a hotel.

Earlier this month, de Lesseps rejected a plea deal and pled not guilty to all of the charges related to the incident. This comes weeks after she resumed filming "RHONY" -- reportedly sober -- after participating in a 21-day treatment program in January.

Season 10 of "The Real Housewives of New York" is expected to premiere in the spring.
