Obama tweets inspiring Martin Luther King Jr. Day message

Former President Barack Obama on Monday tweeted an inspiring Martin Luther King Jr. Day message.

“Dr. King was 26 when the Montgomery bus boycott began. He started small, rallying others who believed their efforts mattered, pressing on through challenges and doubts to change our world for the better,” Obama wrote. “A permanent inspiration for the rest of us to keep pushing towards justice.”

Just days prior, President Trump gave an address about King.

“The premise—and promise—of King’s dream is that we don’t need to replace or transform our Nation’s shared ideals to make our country a better place,” Trump said. “We simply need to live up to them.”

While the message was moving, it was clouded by comments Trump allegedly made during an immigration meeting Thursday.

According to the Washington Post, following a discussion about people coming to the U.S. from El Salvador, Haiti, and Africa, Trump said, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”

The president seems to have denied making that remark, when he tweeted, “the language used by me at the DACA meeting was tough, but this was not the language used.”
