No end in sight for gun violence 'since it's almost always a white kid,' anchor says (video)

Dallas sportscaster Dale Hansen took a break from Olympics coverage on Thursday to turn his attention on the mass shooting at a Florida high school.

“If it was a Muslim or a Mexican doing the shooting, how many new laws and how much money would we spend then to stop the madness? But since it’s almost always a white kid, there’s just nothing we can do,” the WFAA sports anchor said.

Seventeen people were killed and 14 injured at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, by confessed shooter 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz on Wednesday, which immediately ignited a mass call on social media for gun control.

“Another high school shooting yesterday, this one in Florida. Seventeen dead, the last report I saw. And everybody sends their thoughts and prayers again because that works so well,” Hansen said sarcastically.”

Hansen noted that Parkland is the 18th high school shooting in America this year, although that number has been widely reported as inflated, according to the Washington Post.

“America has five percent of the world’s population, and yet 31 percent of the world’s mass shootings,” he continued. “We’re worried about people coming to this country. They should be worried about us going to theirs,” he added.

“The last time I said we need to find a way to stop a nut with a gun — and that’s all I said — I get an email saying, ‘I’m saving my last bullet to put it right between your eyes.’ Just another responsible gun owner in America, and I’m taking all bets he’s a white guy … so there is just nothing we can do,” Hansen concluded.
