1 dead after head-on, wrong-way crash on I-75 in Middletown

A Dayton man was killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on, wrong-way crash on Interstate 75.

In a news release, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the two cars collided near milepost 33 in Middletown around 3:14 p.m.

Troopers said a 2016 Nissan SUV, driven by Geiner Hidalgo, 46, of Dayton, Ohio, was traveling north on I-75 while a 2011 Ford pickup truck was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes.

The Ford truck hit the Nissan SUV head-on. Both vehicles then traveled off the left side of the road and stopped in the left shoulder against the concrete barrier wall.

The driver of the Ford was taken to Atrium Hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening. Hidalgo died at the scene of the crash.

Troopers with the highway patrol's Lebanon post are investigating the crash.
