1 dead in shooting off 43rd Street; IRCSO investigation underway

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY −A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed Thursday night in the 3100 block of 43rd Street, a law enforcement official said.

The man was found with what were said to be several gunshot wounds and was taken to Cleveland Clinic Indian River Hospital where he was declared deceased, according to the Indian River County Sheriff's Office.

The person appeared to have been shot at least twice in the upper back, an Indian River County Fire Rescue official said.

Lifesaving resuscitation efforts were underway as he was taken to the nearby Vero Beach hospital, said Assistant Fire Chief Richard Marini.

The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m. and an investigation was centered on a home in the 3100 block of 43rd Street, according to the agency.

The man's name was not released, and no information was available Friday afternoon about any potential suspect or arrests, said Sgt. Kevin Jaworski.
