2024 presidential debate schedule: Harris, Trump and Vance, Walz events set

Tuesday night, 55 days before election day, former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will face off ahead of election day at a presidential debate in Philadelphia.

In August, ABC News announced where and when the debate would take place, but Trump cast doubt about whether he would participate. He later announced on Truth Social that he accepted to participate in the debate under the same conditions as the June CNN debate against Biden.

The candidates will debate under the following rules:

  • Each candidate’s microphone will only turn on when it is their turn to speak

  • There will be no studio audience

  • The candidates are not allowed to talk to their staff during breaks

  • Candidates are not allowed to bring any notes with them

  • Both candidates will be provided with only a pen, a pad of paper and a bottle of water

The first debate will take place in Philadelphia at the National Constitutional Center.

When is the first presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump?

The debate is set for Tuesday, Sept. 10 in Philadelphia. ABC News announced the debate will begin at 9 p.m. ET.

What is the debate schedule for 2024?

  • June 27: Presidential debate between President Joe Bidena and Trump, which aired on CNN before Biden dropped out of the race.

  • Sept. 10: Presidential debate between Harris and Trump in Philadelphia at the National Constitutional Center.

  • Tuesday, Oct. 1: Vice presidential debate between Democratic Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota and Republican Sen. JD Vance of Ohio in New York City. CBS will host the debate.

Trump offered to do additional debates in September, but Harris' campaign wants to get this one over with first.

“Assuming Donald Trump actually shows up on September 10 to debate Vice President Harris, then Governor Walz will see JD Vance on October 1, and the American people will have another opportunity to see the vice president and Donald Trump on the debate stage in October,” the campaign said.
