4th of July is almost here! What is open, closed July 4 on Independence Day?

Several offices and businesses will close their doors next Thursday in observance of Independence Day.

Many people will spend the Fourth of July celebrating with cookouts, fireworks and parades.

If you're expecting an important package or need to handle some government business, July 4 probably isn't going to be your day.

Independence Day is Thursday, July 4, 2024.

What is the 4th of July and why is it celebrated in the U.S.?

In the United States, Independence Day is the annual celebration of nationhood, according to brittanica.com. The day marks the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. Celebrations are held yearly on July 4th across the country.

Are government offices open on July 4?

All federal offices will be closed, including from legislature to the courthouse. State offices will also be closed, including courts and the legislature. Marion County courts are closed July 4. Most county and city offices are also closed, so call ahead before you go.

Will the Indiana BMV be open on 4th of July?

The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will be closed on July 4.

Will USPS post office be open on Fourth of July? Will mail be delivered July 4th?

The United States Postal Service will be closed, and mail will not be delivered on July 4.

Will FedEx be open on July 4?

FedEx will offer modified service on FedEx Office while FedEx Custom Critical will remain open. All other delivery options will be shut down on July 4.

Most banks will be closed, along with the stock markets. Each market will close early at 1 p.m. − or 1:15 p.m. for eligible options − on Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

Will my trash get picked up on Fourth of July?

Trash will not be picked up for Indianapolis, Lawrence and Greenwood residents, Republic customers and Waste Management customers on July 4. Trash pickup will be delayed one day for the rest of the week. Priority's Zionsville customers will not have trash pickup on July 4 and will also be delayed one day.

Are museums and zoos open on July 4th?

Most are open. Check with the museum or zoo before you go.
