NORTHERN MICHIGAN — September is bringing plenty of fun events to Northern Michigan.

This weekend, there’s high-flying hot air balloons, delicious delicacies, live music and more on the calendar.

5th Annual Balloons Over Bay Harbor floats into town

Look to the skies over Bay Harbor on Sept. 20-22 as the 5th Annual Balloons Over Bay Harbor returns.

Hot air balloons will be arriving in Bay Harbor with daily balloon launches and night glows on the schedule. A 3K Color Run fundraiser for Kali’s Cure will also take place.

The balloons taking off are weather dependent.

Join the fun at Mackinac Island Pride Festival

The Straits Pride organization will host the Third Annual Mackinac Island Pride Festival from Sept. 19-22, with a wide variety of free and ticketed activities on the schedule.

The weekend’s events include tie dying, a Pride Ride around the island, Drag Bingo, Drag Brunch, a Pride Cruise and much more.

Taste of Harbor Springs celebrates local cuisine

The Taste of Harbor Springs is celebrating its 29th year on Sept. 21.

The fundraising event for the Mary Ellen Hughes Culinary Scholarships will take place from 12-3 p.m. at the waterfront in Harbor Springs. Guests can enjoy tastes from participating restaurants, and every admission ticket include a commemorative cup.

Entry and drink tickets at the door are $50 and $7.

Tap into the Trails in Cheboygan

Tap into the Trails on Sept. 21 is an entire day dedicated to celebrating Cheboygan’s trail system.

Cheboygan was designated as a Pure Michigan Trail Town in 2020, and has more than 270 miles of trails crisscrossing through the area.

This event was meant to debut last year, but had to be canceled after a large fire nearby caused safety concerns.

The day’s schedule includes a 5K/10K run, a bike decorating contest, craft beer tasting in Washington Park and much more.

GLCO Sunday Series presents Nancy Stagnitta Jazz Trio

Enjoy a free Sunday Series concert from the Great Lakes Chamber Orchestra at 4 p.m. on Sept. 22 at the Crooked Tree Art Center in Petoskey.

Nancy Stagnitta, principal flutist for the GLCO and Traverse City Philharmonic, bassist Jack Dryden and pianist Bryn Roberts will perform for an afternoon of American standards, Latin jazz and original tunes.
