Valentine’s Day Candy

Dollar Tree offers a wide selection of candy perfect for Valentine’s Day gifts and treats.

“When it comes to candy for Valentine’s Day it’s often for giving as part of valentines and the price just isn’t good enough at Dollar Tree to be worth it,” said Julie Ramhold, consumer analyst at DealNews. “They’ll have individual valentines, too, but at $1.25 each they end up being more expensive than just buying them from a big-box store like Target or Walmart. Additionally, Dollar Tree doesn’t have the same selection that big-box stores do, so you’re going to be limited in your choices anyway.”

Dollar Tree’s prices on Valentine’s candy and cards are often higher than larger retailers. The limited selection also means fewer options to find the perfect valentine. To get more for your money, head to big-box and grocery stores for affordable candy and cards with wider selections.

You’ll find better prices and selections at Target, Walmart or even your local supermarket. With a bit of hunting, you can find quality Valentine’s Day gifts and treats at a lower cost than Dollar Tree’s holiday section. Focus your Dollar Tree dollars on decorations and grab your candy and cards elsewhere.

Valentine’s Day Treat Bags

Also new for Valentine’s Day, Dollar Tree is offering festive treat bags perfect for gifting candy and goodies. The plastic bags come in cute heart designs and bright colors to showcase your treats. A zippered closure promises to keep contents secured.

But they are receiving very poor reviews due to major flaws in quality. According to multiple disappointed customers, the plastic material sticks to candy and treats placed inside. The zipper closures also fail to properly seal the bags closed, rendering them useless for containing food items. Despite the low price point, reviewers say the treat bags are so flimsy and ineffective that they aren’t even worth purchasing.

Graduation Party Favors

Planning a graduation party? Dollar Tree offers festive favors like mini bubbles with graduation caps.

“They may seem cute,” Ramhold said, “but at $1.25 for a pack of six, you can easily end up with more than you need. And these bottles are notorious leakers, which could just end up causing a mess. Your graduate will be much more appreciative of a more useful favor than a bottle of bubbles to use during the ceremony.”

Cute favors that end up leaking or going to waste are not the best use of your party budget. And graduates are likely to appreciate something more practical or personalized. Steer clear of Dollar Tree’s graduation section and seek out favors that are tailored to the recipient.

When planning graduation celebrations, consider skipping the novelty items from Dollar Tree. Focus on useful, personalized favors or gifts that show how proud you are of your graduate’s accomplishments. Mini bubbles may seem fun and festive but could end up being more work than they’re worth. Show your love through meaningful gifts rather than cheap party favors.

Solar-Powered Lanterns

Dollar Tree’s solar-powered geometric cage lanterns promise beautiful ambiance for your outdoor space. However, the cheap construction and poor quality means these lanterns fail to live up to expectations.

Don’t be fooled by the stylish design of Dollar Tree’s solar lanterns. Reviewers complain that they don’t work, making them a complete waste of money. Invest slightly more in quality outdoor lighting that will illuminate your space beautifully.

Name-Brand Snacks

Dollar Tree offers enticing name-brand snacks like Kettle Chips and Fruit Roll-Ups, but are they worth it?

“Things like Kettle brand chips and Fruit Roll-ups may seem like a good thing to toss in your cart, but $1.25 for a 2-ounce bag of chips or three Fruit Roll-ups isn’t a good deal when you can get the same items at places like Walmart for less,” Ramhold said. “Those tiny bags of chips work out to 63 cents per ounce; but, if you shop at a store like Walmart, you can expect to pay around 45 cents per ounce for party-size bags or 48 cents per ounce for a 7.5-ounce bag.”

These snacks at Dollar Tree just aren’t the bargain they appear to be. Larger bulk packages at big-box stores give you significantly better value.

Ramhold added, “For the Fruit Roll-ups, buying at Dollar Tree means spending 41 cents per roll-up, but you can get a family pack of 30 rolls for around $8.26 at Walmart, and that works out to around 28 cents each that way. Skip the name-brand snacks at Dollar Tree and look for stores like Walmart to have much better prices.”
