Five people are recovering after being injured by electric shocks while swimming at a pool in Indiana.

The incident occurred on Sunday, Aug. 25, around 2:35 p.m. at a home in Logansport, which is located about 90 minutes from Indianapolis, according to local stations CBS4 News and FOX 59.

Two of the people injured — which included three kids and two adults — were unresponsive when law enforcement arrived at the scene, the outlets reported, citing the Logansport Police Department.

Said Travis Yike, Logansport PD chief of police, "According to the report, they felt a vibration in the water, and the dad yelled to shut the sump pump off," per CBS4 News and FOX 59.

"It’s an unfortunate accident but fortunately everyone is doing okay," Yike added.

Citing authorities, the outlets reported that a pump wire near the pool's ladder was pinched, causing a protective cover to break and expose the wire. It then touched the water and shocked the group.

Logansport PD told CBS4 News and FOX 59 that the five individuals comprised two parents, their two kids and a friend of one of the kids'.

Yike added, per the outlets, that a 16-year-old boy who was injured himself exhibited "heroic acts" that may have saved the lives of the others.

"I do want to give accolades to that young man that was in the pool when this happened,” he said, according to CBS4 News and FOX 59. “And (he) was also injured but took it upon himself once the power was shut off to jump out and recognize what was going on and save his dad and his sister and his sister’s friends lives."

"If it wasn’t for the heroic acts of a 16-year-old juvenile that was involved in this, it may have turned out a lot different," Yike added.

At least one of the minors is still in the hospital, per the outlets, but law enforcement said everyone involved is expected to recover, and that no criminal activity is suspected.
