After 6 months of closure, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday returns with new designs

Updated

Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday is back and ready to cause some frights once again.

The popular attraction at the California park is reopening its spooky doors on July 29, just in time for Halloween and the holiday season, according to a Thursday announcement on the Disney Parks Instagram.

Disneyland temporarily closed the Haunted Mansion on Jan. 22 as part of the New Orleans Square recent renovations. The park plans to expand the attraction's outdoor queue and add handicap accessibility and a new gift shop inspired by Madame Leota's carriage house. The new queue area will feature gardens with fountains and statues of the characters in the attraction.

As usual, the attraction will be adorned with decor inspired by Tim Burton's iconic film "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Jack Skellington, Sally and other characters from the film will make their appearance, adding "frightfully festive touches" to the mansion, according to Disney.

This year, however, guests can look forward to some new additions to the holiday overlay. "At the center of the frightful fête’s ballroom scene is the gingerbread house, with an all-new design for this year," the park said.

The park said the renovation work to the ghoulish attraction grounds is still underway, and the new store and outdoor queue will not open on July 29.

How can I get access to the Haunted Mansion?

The Haunted Mansion will only be accessible through the virtual queue via the Disneyland app, starting July 29. Guests can go on the app and request to enter the attraction on the same day their ticket is valid.

There will be two daily opportunities to request to join the virtual queue for the attraction: once at 7 a.m. for guests who have a park reservation with a one-park ticket or a park reservation with a Park Hopper ticket, and again at noon for guests already inside Disney California Adventure Park with a Park Hopper Ticket or Disneyland Park. Disney says there won't be a standby queue available at this time.

Guests are encouraged to check availability "just before" their visit or before 7 a.m. on the day of their visit. As long as one person's Disney account is linked to their group's park ticket, only that person needs to make the request to the virtual queue for the party.
