Ali Krieger Reveals She's Dating a 'Wonderful' Person Following Divorce from Ashlyn Harris

"I’m, you know, so grateful that we met," Krieger said of her new partner

Almost a year after her ex-wife, Ashlyn Harris, filed for divorce, Ali Krieger gave an update on her love life, revealing that she's in a new relationship with a “wonderful” person.

On Wednesday, July 24, Krieger, 39, appeared on the She Pivots podcast and opened up about her life following the highly publicized split from Harris, 38. She also confirmed that she is dating someone new, but has decided to keep their identity under wraps for now.

“I’m dating a wonderful person right now, who I really, really like. I’m, you know, so grateful that we met,” Krieger said. She further explained that she didn’t jump right into a relationship following the end of her marriage with Harris because she needed to “grieve” the breakdown of their relationship.

“It gave me time from when [Ashlyn] left to really focus on obviously soccer and finishing my career, but then healing my wounds and kind of licking my wounds so to speak," the retired soccer star continued.

She added, "I think, now, eight, nine months down the road has now given me time to grieve, and to sort through all those feelings.”

Noting that divorce from Harris was never something she wanted and that she was “willing to fight” to make it work, Krieger added, “I really did love what we had. And I really loved her and our kids.” The former couple shares custody of their two children, Sloane, 3, and Ocean, 2.

The news of Krieger's budding romance comes after Harris started dating actress Sophia Bush in the fall of 2023.

Harris and Krieger, meanwhile, first met in 2010 when they were members of the United States women's national soccer team. They announced their engagement with PEOPLE in 2019 and married that same year in Florida.

Harris filed for divorce from Krieger on Sept. 19, 2023 after four years of marriage.

While speaking with Women’s Health in July, the Harris revealed how her divorce from Krieger has impacted her mental health.

"I'm navigating a divorce that's been really hard," she said. "I can't control everyone else's reaction. I can't control everyone else's opinions of me. I have to own myself and my body and be present and be human."

Harris also explained to the magazine Women's Health how Bush has helped her as she manages her mental health.

"I say this often to Sophia — if I'm walking into a fire, I have to be equipped for that fire. I have to get my fire suit, I've got to get my tools, I gotta get my oxygen mask, I gotta get my water hose. I'm f---ing breaking down that door and I'm finding a way [out]. It might not be an easy window — it might be a back door, it might be climbing through a roof," she recalled, noting, "I'm equipped to handle the process."
