‘AMAZING!’ Poll finds the best breakfast sandwich in Whatcom County

We asked readers where to find the best breakfast sandwich in Whatcom County and the votes are in.

The poll had 12 local restaurant and coffee shop options in Whatcom County including Woods Coffee, Mount Bakery Cafe, The Bagelry and Avellino Coffeehouse.

The unscientific poll received 276 votes.

Avenue Bread received 120 votes to top the list of the best breakfast sandwich in Whatcom County.

There are four Avenue Bread cafes throughout Whatcom County that serve fresh bread, pastries, breakfast sandwiches, soups and more from its sister company, Avenue Bakery.

The cafes’ breakfast sandwiches, called “eggenues,” are made with an English muffin, egg and a variety of toppings such as sausage, peppers, avocado, tomatoes and bacon.

Avenue Bread was also voted as having the best freshly-baked bread in Whatcom County by another reader poll by The Bellingham Herald.

Avenue Bread cafes are also popular online, as all four cafes received 4-star ratings from reviews on Yelp.

Avenue Bread has three Bellingham locations. The Railroad cafe is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and is at 1313 Railroad Ave. The Fairhaven cafe is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is at 1135 11th St. The James Street cafe is open from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily and is at 2301 James St. Avenue Bread cafe in Lynden is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is at 444 Front St.

Following Avenue Bread with 47 votes was The Bagelry.

The Bagelry makes a variety of bagels such as plain, everything, sourdough, garlic, cinnamon raisin, blueberry, rosemary salt and poppy. Visitors can mix and match the variety of bagel flavors with various cream cheese flavors including garlic feta dill, lox, jalapeno, cinnamon walnut raisin and strawberry.

The Bagelry also serves breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., including a breakfast sandwich with a bagel, one egg cooked any style and cheddar cheese.

The bagel shop is also popular online, receiving a 3.5-star rating from 275 ratings on Yelp.

The Bagelry is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, and is at 1319 Railroad Ave. in Bellingham.

In third place was Mount Bakery Cafe with 23 votes, followed by Crusin Coffee with 22 votes and Woods Coffee with 15 votes.
