Another IHSA state champion Washington wrestler headed to the Big Ten

Wyatt Medlin is a future Illini.

The Washington junior gave his verbal commitment to the University of Illinois wrestling program on Sunday. He joins former teammate and current redshirt freshman Kannon Webster on the roster. Medlin's father, Bryan Medlin, is the Illinois wrestling director of operations.

The younger Medlin is coming off a Class 2A 138-pound state championship sophomore season. His title-match victory was a 10-3 win over Mt. Vernon junior Dillon White. Medline earned the 2024 Journal Star wrestler of the year honors following a campaign where he went 45-4.

Medlin, who was an individual regional and sectional champ, went 3-0 in Washington's postseason journey to winning back-to-back Class 2A dual-team state championships.
