Arrest made in Columbia shooting that left man with serious injuries

A Columbia man is in custody after a weekend shooting.

Alexis Gonzalez, 36, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Further court information was not yet available Monday morning.

Columbia police responded at about 11:28 p.m. to a shots-fired report in the 500 block of East Nifong Boulevard, finding a man with a gunshot wound. The male victim was treated by officers until EMS could arrive to take the victim to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Gonzalez, through police investigations, was identified as the suspect. There is no outstanding threat related to this shooting incident, police say.
