Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says he'll serve until Trump 'tweets me out of office'

You could say that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo ‘serves at the Twitter of the President’.

Pompeo expressed being satisfied with his position in the Trump administration and with the president himself during a Q&A portion of the Global Enterprise Summit, when the Secretary of State was asked how long he plans to be at his post, Pompeo said quote, “I’m going to be there until he tweets me out of office. (laughter) Which...which I’m not counting on at least today”

Pompeo might have been joking, but it was the precise way that the previous Secretary of State Rex Tillerson learned of his dismissal.

The question about how long he plans to stay at the helm may also have been posed because the summit was being held in Kansas, Pompeo’s home state, where CNN reported in January that the Republican Party was interested in the former Congressman, as a replacement for the retiring Kansas Senator Pat Roberts for the upcoming 2020 election.

According to Newsweek, Pompeo is not interested in this election cycle but hasn’t ruled out a 2024 bid for the Senate seat.
