Florida man busted for posing as cop and pulling over detective

A Florida man was arrested for posing as a policeman and attempting to pull over an undercover officer, CNN reports.

Matthew Joseph Erris, 26, thought it would be a good idea last week to play cop by attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a detective. Erris' 2007 white Chevrolet Trailblazer was fitted with red and blue lights, along with a law enforcement light bar, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

When the undercover officer grew suspicious of the man, he called 911. A real deputy arrived shortly thereafter and pulled Erris over. That's when police found an airsoft pistol underneath the SUV's front passenger seat.

Erris was later arrested for impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Authorities are unsure whether the man has pulled a similar stunt before and has asked anyone who may have been a possible victim to come forward.
