Ashley Iaconetti criticizes Kelly Ripa's interview with Bachelorette lead, Jenn Tran

People have varying opinions on The Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise, ranging from fierce loyalty to outright disdain and everything in between. But whatever your thoughts are on the original reality dating show, it's probably best not to voice them in the hearing of someone who met their husband on it.

Bachelor alum Ashley Iaconetti illustrated this point when she sharply criticized television host Kelly Ripa's interview with the current Bachelorette lead, Jenn Tran.

“(Ripa's comments) were just a little offensive to us who have found love on the show," said Iaconetti, 36, who met her husband, Jared Haibon on the show. The two now own "Audrey's Coffeehouse and Lounge" in South Kingston.

During the Monday, July 8, episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, Ripa asked why Tran would want to be on the show. The question itself was not objectionable, but according to Iaconetti, it's part of a larger pattern of Ripa making clear her dislike for the Bachelorette.

“It disappoints me when I see that Kelly Ripa has such an ax to grind with The Bachelor franchise,” Iaconetti said on the Thursday, July 11, episode of the “Almost Famous” podcast. “Every time we have a lead go on the show to promote it, she always seems to be so skeptical of — a little bit of the lead, and their decision to be the lead — and also just the process.”

Iaconetti said that Ripa's attitude could almost be construed as "shaming" the show in particular, despite there being "so many reality shows out there that are so much more trashy."

Iaconetti's co-host and former Bachelor star, Ben Higgins, corroborated some of these statements, saying that he had "an awkward interview," when he appeared on Live with Kelly and Mark.

Kelly Ripa and Jenn Trann 'not offended'

While Iaconetti may not be pleased with Ripa's line of questioning, Tran appears to have held her own in the interview. The Bachelorette star turned the question around on Ripa, asking her about how she met her husband, Mark Counselos, while the two were both working on the soap opera All My Children.

Though Ripa debated that it was a different situation, Entertainment Weekly reported that neither Ripa nor Tran were offended.
