How to audition for Manitowoc Masquers’ ‘12 Angry Jurors’

MANITOWOC – “12 Angry Jurors” will kick off The Masquers, Inc., Community Theater Company’s 94th season.

The show will be Nov. 7-9 at the Capitol Civic Centre and auditions are slated for Sept. 3.

Six or more men and six or more women are sought to fill 12 jury roles and three bit parts.

Two roles are off-stage parts while one actor appears briefly on stage.

The 12 actors cast as the “jury” will be asked to develop deep, rich, uniquely individual characters, a news release said.

Auditions will begin at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at The Masquers’ Coach House, 616 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc.

Those wishing to audition should register at https://www.themasquers.org/auditions(12AG).html. Audition forms, character descriptions and a rehearsal schedule can also be accessed at the same link.

All participants are asked to attend the auditions with a completed audition form, a head shot and a list of rehearsal scheduling conflicts. People are also asked to arrive early, be ready to start on time and plan to stay for the entire audition session.

Here’s a description of the show: “A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. ‘He doesn’t stand a chance,’ mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case — until one of the jurors begins opening the others’ eyes to the facts.

“‘This is a remarkable thing about democracy,’ says the foreign-born juror, ‘that we are notified by mail to come down to this place — and decide on the guilt or innocence of a person; of a man or woman we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing.’ But personal it is, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted, and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated and these seemingly ordinary citizens become 12 angry jurors.”

Rehearsals will begin Sept. 9 and run Mondays through Thursdays until production dates.
