Award winning journalist Darci Strickland is leaving WLTX after 27 years

Darci Strickland, content manager and award winning journalist at WLTX TV, announced she’s leaving Columbia’s News19..

She will have her final day on July 31, according to WLTX.

The award winning journalist told WLTX “after 27 years in broadcast journalism, it is time for me to close this chapter and embark on a new path.”

“It has been an honor to bring you the news, tell your stories, and be a part of your daily lives. You’ve given me a chance to be a part of your family and I don’t take that honor lightly,” Strickland told WLTX.

Strickland is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She’s won multiple awards, including the 2019 South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association Anchor of the Year, 2009 South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association TV Personality of the Year, and 2005 University of South Carolina Young Alumni of the Year, according to WLTX.

Strickland also earned Emmy Awards, including the Alfred I. DuPont Award, and an Edward R. Murrow Award. In 2023 she won the South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association’s Masters Award.

Strickland was a highly respected journalist with deep empathy, WLTX reported. She grew up in Ladson, South Carolina, and graduated from the University of South Carolina. She joined WLTX as a weekend weather anchor and moved to the morning newscast as an anchor and meteorologist.

She later co-anchored with J.R. Berry for 26 years and moved to the evenings, where she was a part of the launch of Friends at Five with her co-anchor, Andrea Mock.
