Bad blood: Donald Trump says 'I hate Taylor Swift' after she endorsed Harris

Updated

Republican Donald Trump's bad blood with pop star Taylor Swift continues to boil after she endorsed his Democratic rival in the 2024 presidential election.

"I hate Taylor Swift," Trump declared Sunday on Truth Social, his social media website, to his 7.71 million followers.

The remark came days after the singer endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in an Instagram post to her 284 million followers immediately following last Tuesday's debate. Swift said the VP is a "steady-handed" and "gifted leader" adding how Americans "can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos."

The former president has returned to lashing out at major celebrities he disagrees, which was something he did often during his time in office. Swift has not posted or mentioned Trump, except to point out in her endorsement that there was AI showing her "falsely endorsing Donald Trump ... and the dangers of spreading misinformation."

The Kamala Harris/Tim Walz campaign wasted no time, however, responding - without specifically mentioning Trump's post. It issued a release: “Trump’s Bad Week (Taylor’s Version)," and included 28 references to Swift's songs.

“We’re pretty sure it’s Safe (& Sound) to say Donald Trump’s week has him Down Bad. Mr. Not-at-all-Fine has spent this week working through his feelings, whining about his Champagne Problems," it read.

Trump praised Swift weeks earlier as "very beautiful" and he made posts using suspected artificial intelligence-generated images of her in support of him. Most recently the Trump campaign has been selling t-shirts with a similar aesthetic as the Taylor Swift Eras Tour merchandise.

Trump claimed he was "not a Taylor Swift fan" during a call to "Fox & Friends" last week, and warned that she will "probably pay a price for it in the marketplace. He instead praised Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is teammates with Swift's boyfriend, tight end Travis Kelce.

Brittany Mahomes recently liked a post by Trump on Instagram where he shared the GOP platform — before unliking it after she received backlash for the action. She defended her like in a subsequent post.

"I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better if you want to know the truth," Trump said Wednesday. "She’s a big Trump fan."
