Will Barron Trump attend University of Pennsylvania? College issues protest guidelines

It’s not been confirmed where Barron Trump will attend college, but one university on the speculated list made an interesting announcement recently.

Almost a year ago, Donald Trump said his youngest son, then a senior at Oxbridge Academy near West Palm Beach, was “thinking” about the University of Pennsylvania, from where the former president graduated and studied at the Wharton School.

But in an interview early this month, the 2024 presumptive Republican nominee said his son’s where-to-go-to college decision had been altered by "rioting," a reference to Israel-Gaza war protests and confrontations that took place this spring on numerous high-profile campuses across the country.

University of Pennsylvania announces process to address campus protests

Last week, however, the University of Pennsylvania issued a policy of “temporary standards and procedures” to govern on-campus demonstrations and protests.

Penn’s announcement, dated June 6, included a document with guidelines on a wide-ranging set of considerations, including the scheduling events, amplified noise restrictions, defined access to public spaces on campus and even the use of posters, banners and chalking. In addition, a faculty-led task force will start reviewing policies and make recommendations on the guidelines.

“The purpose of these Temporary Standards and Procedures is to reinforce and reaffirm Penn’s commitment to open expression and, at the same time, ensure that events, demonstrations, and other expressions of free speech are appropriately managed, while allowing Penn to deliver its core missions of teaching, research, service, and patient care without disruption,” the announcement said.

Penn’s president, M. Elizabeth Magill, resigned last December after a disastrous congressional hearing in which she and other A-list university presidents testified about antisemitism on their campuses.

Where will Donald Trump's son Barron Trump go to college?

The former first couple has not said much.

One possibility could be New York University in Manhattan, where Barron spent much of his childhood — and lived until his father was sworn in as the 45th president in early 2017.

Trump said on Fox News this month that Barron had been accepted "everywhere" he applied, adding the recent high school graduate is "very sought after from the standpoint he's a very smart guy."

Is Barron Trump into politics?

If so, his entry into the arena will be delayed.

On May 8, NBC News reported that Barron Trump had been selected as a member of the Florida delegation to next month's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. As a delegate, he would join his half-brothers Donald Jr. and Eric, and half-sister Tiffany in casting votes to officially nominate their father as the GOP's presidential nominee for a third straight time.

But on the evening of May 10, Melania Trump issued a statement that saying that while Barron was honored to have been chosen, he was declining the opportunity due to prior commitments. She did not elaborate as to what those commitments might be.
