BBC shares Eurovision 2025 update, with host city confirmed

The Eurovision Song Contest has confirmed its dates for the 2025 competition and unveiled next year's host city.

Swiss singer and rapper Nemo was victorious in this year's contest in Malmö, securing 591 points for his performance of original song 'The Code'.

As is tradition, the winner's home country becomes the next to host the contest – with it announced today that Basel will be the Swiss city hosting the 2025 event. The grand final will take place on Saturday, May 17, 2025.

In a tweet, the BBC shared details of the 2025 competition, additionally confirming they will once again broadcast all UK coverage of next year's event.

The host city announcement was first shared on the Eurovision Song Contest's official YouTube account, with a video unveiling the location.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest said: "The EBU is thrilled that Basel has been selected as the Host City for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

"The Contest was born in Switzerland in Lugano back in 1956, and it’s great to be bringing it back to its birthplace almost 70 years later."

Basel will host the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, with St Jakobshalle as the venue for the Semi-Finals and Grand Final in May.

The contest was last hosted by Switzerland in 1989 in Lausanne and previously in Lugano in the 1950s.

Nemo secured the third Swiss win in 2024 – it was also the first win for the country since Celine Dion took home the prize in 1988.

Years & Years singer Olly Alexander represented the UK in this year's contest, ending up in 18th place with 46 points (scoring 0 points from the public).

The 2024 Eurovision Song Contest was a historic one for Ireland thanks to their entrant Bambie Thug, who finished in sixth place with 278 points for their song 'Doomsday Blue'.

The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel, Switzerland in May 2025.
