Big events in Wichita this weekend will close several streets. What you need to know

Two events this weekend will close roads around Wichita.

On Saturday, the Veterans Day Parade will shut down Main Street from Central south to around Waterman, then turn west and end at WaterWalk Hotel and Apartments. The parade starts at 11 a.m. After the parade, there will be a chance to see the vehicles and other displays. There will also be concessions available. The theme of this year’s parade is “Honoring Women Veterans.”

Then on Sunday, the 43rd annual Wichita Toy Run will close Douglas from Main to McLean from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Broadway from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. The toy run, which begins at 1 p.m., goes from Douglas and Main east to Broadway and then north on Broadway all the way to Hartman Arena in Park City.

The annual event brings usually draws thousands of motorcyclists who drop off toys that will be distributed by the Salvation Army, Marines’ Toys for Tots, and the Kansas Food Bank. At Hartman Arena, there will be a $5 chili feed, prizes and vendors. It is free to get in.
